Washing Machine Buying Guide

If you’re looking for a new freestanding or integrated washing machine and don’t quite know where to begin, whether it’s understanding which capacity is best or knowing which of the latest technologies to look out for, our washing machine buying guide will help you find the best washing machine for your everyday needs.

Washing Machine Capacities & Colours

Capacity & colour

Deciding on the capacity you need and which colour you want are two of the first things you should be considering before you buy. A lot of people like to install their washing machines in their kitchens, so getting the colour right can really help to co-ordinate your kitchen’s design. Matching the capacity to your everyday washing needs will help you save time too.

Small Capacity

Great for smaller families, urban living, or for those who do their washing frequently, select a small capacity washing machine for your needs:

  • You can wash up to 25 shirts in a single wash cycle with a 5kg capacity washing machine, and up to 30 shirts in a single wash cycle with a 6kg capacity washing machine.*

  • Our small capacity 5kg and 6kg washing machines come in white, silver, or black. Select the colour that suits your kitchen the best.

Medium Capacity

Being the most popular, a medium capacity washing machine is great for any family’s everyday washing needs:

  • You can wash up to 35 shirts in a single wash cycle with a 7kg capacity washing machine, and up to 40 shirts in a single wash cycle with an 8kg capacity washing machine.*

  • Our medium capacity 7kg and 8kg washing machines come in white, silver, anthracite, graphite, and black to help you select the perfect match for your kitchen.

Large Capacity

Allowing you to wash more in one go, a large capacity washing machine is perfect for larger families and for washing bigger items, like duvets:

  • You can wash up to 45 shirts in a 9kg, 50 shirts in a 10kg, 55 shirts in an 11kg and 60 shirts in a 12kg – all in a single wash cycle.*

  • Our large capacity 9kg, 10kg, 11kg and 12kg washing machines come in white, black, anthracite, graphite, and red. Select the colour that suits your kitchen the best.

Spin Speeds

Washing Machine Spin Speeds

Selecting the best spin speed for your needs can help you save time and give your clothes a wash cycle that gives them the proper care they need too. The spin speeds in our range of washing machines go up to maximums of 1600rpm, however our washing machines offer the option of lower spin speeds, as low as 600rpm, for your more delicate laundry too. Lower spin speeds are ideal for your delicate garments, taking extra care not to damage them, while higher spin speeds reduce the water your clothes will retain so they’ll take less time to dry. But, make sure you always read and follow the washing instructions on your clothes because higher spin speeds could damage your more delicate garments.

Washing Machine Quick Programmes

Quick Programmes

The next thing to look out for in your washing machine purchase journey is which quick programme options your new appliance will offer you. When you have a lot of washing to do and need to get all of it done quickly, be it a large load or a small load, our range of washing machines comes with two of the quickest programmes out there to help you save time every day.

Daily Quick Programme

Our Daily Quick programme is the greatest helping hand for your everyday wash, and, it comes on all of our new washing machines. This programme can wash a full load of any capacity, up to 12kg, in just 28* minutes.

Super Short Programme

Ideal for when you need just a few clothes in a hurry, our Super Short programme can wash a 2kg load of laundry in just 14 minutes.

Check out our Quick Wash Washing Machines.

*The duration of the programme is only indicative, and is based on a 30° wash. The actual duration may be slightly lower or higher and is dependent on water pressure, water temperature, unbalanced loads and detergent overdosing, etc.

Washing Machine Size Guide

Size Guide
dimensions.jpg

Before you even start looking for your new washing machine, it’s important to measure the space you have available. Washing machine dimensions vary although they are usually the same width, the washing machine depth can differ.

Washing machine height is normally a standard 84cm on all freestanding washing machines however, if you are buying an integrated washing machine, these are slightly shorter at 82cm so that they will fit perfectly into your cupboard.

Once you know what space you have, you can work out if you need a slim or a standard sized washing machine. Just make sure your washing machine is slightly smaller than the gap to allow it to be easily fitted into place.

Our standard washing machines are 60-62cm deep and available in capacities up to 12kg. Our slim washing machines range between 41-54cm deep and can wash up to 6kg of washing, so perfect when space is a bit tighter.

Do You Need a Freestanding or Integrated Washing Machine?

freestanding.jpg

Freestanding Washing Machine

Freestanding washing machines are the most common type. As they are freestanding they don't require fitting to your kitchen units so can be placed anywhere in your home (providing there’s access to drainage and power of course). This can be particularly helpful if you don't have much space in your kitchen and would like to put your new washing machine in a bathroom or utility room.

Integrated Washing Machine

In contrast, an integrated washing machine is built in and completely hidden behind a cupboard door and is a great choice if you want to seamlessly blend your new washing machine into your kitchen design. At Beko we have a wide range of both so we can help you find the best integrated washing machine or freestanding washing machine for your needs.

Washing Machine Features

Extra Features

The last, but far from the least, factor that you should consider when you’re looking for a new washing machine, is the range of extra features your new laundry appliance will come with. Beko’s range of washing machines comes with a host of extra features to help you every day.

ProSmart™ Inverter Motor Technology

Get peace of mind knowing your washing machine is powered by our quieter, durable and more efficient motor which comes with a 10-year guarantee.

DrumClean Programme

SRemove bacteria from the drum at the touch of a button with the DrumClean programme. Helping you benefit from more hygienic washing, the bacteria that builds up inside the drum will be cleaned at a hot 70°C.

SteamCure Technology

Want to spend less time ironing? Our washing machines with SteamCure Technology use the power of steam to reduce creases. By dispersing steam into the drum at the end of the programme, creases are reduced, saving you ironing time.

AquaTech®

AquaTech gives you up to 50% faster washes that are also up to 50% more gentle. Water and detergent cascades in from the top of the drum and the powerful action of water replaces vigorous drum movements, resulting in a quicker, kinder wash for your clothes.

Things to Consider When Buying a Washing Machine

Whether you’ve already selected the perfect washing machine for your home or are still in the decision making stages, here are a few important extra things to keep in mind before you buy:

  • Most people know if they need a freestanding washing machine or an integrated model for their kitchen, but if you would like to find out more about things to consider before buying an integrated washing machine, head over to our built-in buying guide for more information.

  • Be sure to measure the space you have available to you. You don’t want to be in a position where you’ve already purchased your new washing machine, only to find that it doesn’t actually fit into the space you have for it in your kitchen.

  • Always account for the space the piping will take up behind your washing machine. The inlet and waste water pipes are a vital part of your washing machine’s functionality, so make sure there is plenty of space for them.

  • Double check that there is a power source within at least one metre of your new washing machine. Always plug your washing machine into the mains, not an extension cord.

Now that you have all the information you need about things to consider before you buy, why not browse our range of washing machines?
